Russia-Ukraine Prisoner Exchange Set

Russia-Ukraine Prisoner Exchange Set

War in Ukraine

Russian presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky announced on Wednesday that Moscow is prepared to conduct a prisoner exchange with Ukraine between June 7-9, following agreements made during peace talks in Istanbul earlier this week. The exchange is expected to involve about 1,200 prisoners from each side, making it the largest so far, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Medinsky, who led Russia’s delegation in the talks, also confirmed that President Putin’s position includes the possibility of a leaders' summit with Ukraine, provided detailed agreements are finalized beforehand. Ukraine’s stance focuses on starting with an unconditional ceasefire before a summit.

Additionally, Russia is ready to return the bodies of 6,000 Ukrainian soldiers and receive those of Russian servicemen in the coming days. The Istanbul talks, the second round after May 16, emphasized exchanging prisoners, especially the youngest and most severely wounded, and the return of soldiers’ bodies.
