
Croatia breaks records with 1.2 million tourists
In April, Croatia welcomed 1.2 million tourists, a 14% increase compared to the same month last year, while overnight stays rose by 17% to 3.6 million, according to data from the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ).
These results were partly driven by the later timing of the Easter holidays compared to last year. The four-day Easter period alone brought a double-digit increase in tourist traffic compared to the same holidays last year, which fell in March, CE Report quotes HINA.
Over the first four months of 2025, tourist arrivals increased by 3% to 2.27 million, and overnight stays by 4% to 6.4 million.
Both inbound and domestic tourism sees rise in firs four months of 2025
According to HTZ data from the eVisitor system, 1.57 million foreign tourists visited Croatia in the first four months of the year, accounting for 4.8 million overnight stays, increases of 2% and 4% respectively compared to the same period last year.
There were 697,000 domestic tourists in the first four months of the year, 6% more than in the same period last year , who recorded 1.5 million overnight stays, an increase of 3%."
April saw a 17% rise in overnight stays overall, with campsites recording a particularly strong increase of 36%.
As is usually the case, foreign tourists accounted for the majority of overnight stays in April, totalling 3.1 million, 20% more than in April last year. The number of foreign arrivals also rose by 16%, reaching 997,200.
There were also more domestic tourists and overnight stays compared to April last year, both up by 4%, with nearly 233,000 arrivals and 526,000 overnight stays.
This placed domestic tourists as the second largest group by nationality, behind the Germans in first place.
Slovenians came third, followed in the top ten by tourists from Austria, the United Kingdom, Poland, Italy, the United States, France, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Most tourists in April chose hotels for their accommodation, recording 1.6 million overnight stays, a 12% increase compared to April last year.
Private accommodation (rented households) followed as the second most popular option among commercial lodging types, with 806,600 overnight stays, up by 21.6%.
Campsites ranked third with 546,500 overnight stays, but recorded by far the highest increase compared to April last year as much as 36%.
