Albanian star bridges football and tourism in Poland
Albanian midfielder Juljan Shehu, who plays for Polish side Widzew Lodz, has become an informal ambassador for Albania in Poland, Prime Minister Edi Rama said on his “Flasim” (Let’s Talk) podcast.
The 27-year-old Shehu, a native of Petrelë near Tirana, was the latest guest on the podcast, where he spoke about his rise from domestic football to growing prominence in Poland, CE Report quotes ATA.
Shehu began his professional career with Kastrioti in the 2018–2019 season before moving to Laçi, where he spent three seasons. In 2022, he transferred to Widzew Lodz, quickly gaining popularity among Polish fans.
He said his performances have helped boost interest in Albania as a travel destination, recalling that a Polish travel agency once told him:
“Every time you score, we add another charter flight to Albania.”
Shehu added that he often brings Polish tourists with him when visiting Albania, noting that the country has become one of Poland’s preferred tourism destinations.
Speaking about his early days in Poland, Shehu cited language barriers and adaptation challenges, saying consistent hard work helped him overcome them.
Born in Petrelë, Shehu developed a passion for football at an early age with strong family support and has since established himself as a familiar figure in Polish football.
As reported by CE Report, Albania and Kosovo enhance military cooperation.
