Universitatea Cluj extends contract with Ivorian winger

Ivorian winger Issouf Macalou (26) has reached an agreement to extend his contract with football club Universitatea Cluj, the club announced on its official website.

The Ivorian player joined Universitatea at the beginning of this year, after last playing for the French third-division team Sochaux-Montbéliard. Two months after his transfer was finalized, Macalou made his debut in black and white in the first stage of the playoffs, earning praise despite the 0-3 away loss to Universitatea Craiova, CE Report quotes AGERPRES.

Having previously played for Le Mans and Valenciennes, he continued his good form throughout last season’s playoffs, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

Macalou was a starter in both legs against Ararat-Armenia in the Conference League, and domestically he added 17 appearances in the Superliga and two in the Romanian Cup, scoring one goal and providing five assists, totaling four goals and six assists in 31 matches for ‘U’.

Macalou is the sixth player to extend his contract with Universitatea Cluj in recent days, following midfielders Dan Nistor, Dorin Codrea, Gabriel Simion, and defenders Alex Chipciu and Iulian Cristea.
