Liverpool manager reacts to Salah’s criticism

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has no idea whether Mohamed Salah has played his last game for the club, after the Egyptian stunned the football community in England with his comments regarding recent events at Liverpool. As a result, he was left out of the squad for the Champions League match against Inter.

Salah stated in an interview following the 3–3 draw with Leeds that he feels betrayed by Liverpool. The Egyptian added that he no longer maintains a personal relationship with manager Slot and that “someone” wants to get rid of a player who has scored 250 goals, won two Premier League titles, and one Champions League in eight memorable years, CE Report quotes BTA.

When asked whether he would ever include Salah in the squad again, Slot said: “I don’t know. I can’t say at the moment.”

The lack of a clear answer did not stop reporters, who continued to ask questions about the Egyptian over the next ten minutes. The Dutchman stated that he was surprised by Salah’s words, who was an unused substitute in the 3–3 draw against Leeds United on Saturday.

“Yes, to some extent I was surprised by what I heard from him. I think my opinion is clear. That’s why he is not with us today. Only Mo can tell you if his anger was directed at me. I can only guess,” Slot added.

Salah trained with the team on Monday but did not travel with the Reds for the Champions League match against Inter, and the manager explained that the conversation with him was brief.

“He has the right to feel what he feels, but not to share it with the media. Actually, he has the right to share it, but we also have the right to respond. Usually, I am calm and polite, but that does not mean I am weak. If a player expresses such opinions on so many topics, then I and the club are obliged to act. You can see the result of that,” the Dutchman continued.

Slot led Liverpool to the English title in his first season in charge of the Reds, but this year the team is far from its usual form. The incident with Salah has put additional pressure on the Dutchman, and some UK media claim that he has lost the dressing room.

“I don’t think I’ve lost my authority. In this case I am directly involved, but that does not shift my focus from the day-to-day work at the club,” Slot added.

Goalkeeper Alisson Becker stated that the situation with Salah is far from good, but added that the team has not been destabilized by it.

“None of this makes me happy because I personally love Mo. He is an extremely important player for Liverpool and a wonderful person. We were all surprised, but we understand that these are personal matters between him and the club. It doesn’t matter what we believe; we just hope the issue is resolved,” said Alisson.
