Romanian swimmer David Popovici claimed gold in the men’s 200m freestyle at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore on Tuesday, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

The 20-year-old Olympic champion won with a time of 1:43.53, staging a stunning comeback in the final stretch to overtake American Luke Hobson, who took silver (1:43.84). Japan’s Tatsuya Murasa earned bronze (1:44.54).

The victory came fittingly on Romania’s National Anthem Day.
