Luis Enrique Faces FIFA Sanctions
Luis Enrique could face sanctions from FIFA after a serious incident at the end of the Club World Cup final, where Chelsea beat PSG 3-0. João Pedro's goal, along with a brace from Cole Palmer, gave the Londoners the victory, but the end of the match was marked by chaos and clashes, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
Tensions began when João Neves was sent off for pulling Cucurella's hair, which sparked a clash between the two teams. In an unusual scene, Luis Enrique got directly involved in the fight and punched João Pedro. The Spanish coach was stopped by his player, Kimpembe, to avoid an escalation. Enrique later claimed that his action was in reaction to an earlier punch by Pedro.
In a press conference, Enrique apologized for the incident and the image it left behind. According to analyst and former referee Iturralde González, although the cards expire at the end of the tournament, FIFA has the right to take additional disciplinary measures in accordance with article 74 of the Disciplinary Code.
FIFA has previously imposed severe sanctions for violent conduct. The most famous case is that of Luis Suárez, who was suspended for nine matches and banned from football for four months after biting Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup. José María Giménez was also suspended for four matches and fined 20,000 francs.
FIFA's decision on the case of Luis Enrique is now awaited, who could face a ban from managing PSG in official international matches.
