Trump Tower to Host Club World Cup Trophy Display
The expanded tournament, featuring many of the world's top teams, is widely seen as a "dress rehearsal" for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico with a record 48 national teams, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.
"I'm going to watch the game," Trump told reporters.
The news came shortly after FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced the opening of an office for the world soccer confederation in Trump Tower, further strengthening its presence on American soil a year before the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Sunday's Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium will serve as a "dress rehearsal" for next year's final.
FIFA had already relocated its legal department to Miami, where all employees involved in the operational implementation of the Club World Cup, currently being held in the United States, as well as the 2026 World Cup, also work.
FIFA also announced that the Club World Cup trophy will be on display at Trump Tower from Tuesday to Saturday, ahead of the final.
Trump has not shied away from the sports spotlight during his second term, becoming the first sitting president to attend the Super Bowl in February and announcing from the Oval Office in May that Washington would host the 2027 NFL Draft.
