Liverpool have confirmed the signing of German midfielder Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on a long-term contract, with the deal potentially reaching a British record £116 million ($156 million), CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

The 22-year-old becomes Liverpool’s most expensive signing, surpassing the £75 million paid for Virgil van Dijk in 2018. Wirtz joins as the latest addition under new manager Arne Slot after completing his medical and agreeing personal terms.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Wirtz said: “I'm really excited to have a new adventure... I want something completely new, to go out of the Bundesliga and join the Premier League.”

Wirtz made his senior debut in 2020 at age 17 and leaves Leverkusen after five standout seasons. Despite a major injury in 2022, he played a key role in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga title run, German Cup triumph, and Europa League final appearance in 2023–24, scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists in 45 games last season.
