Ballon d'Or 2025 breaks tradition with new criteria

The 2025 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony will take place on September 22 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

The Ballon d'Or will be announced a month earlier than usual this year: while the last ceremonies were held at the end of October, the 2025 edition will take place on September 22.

The evening will take place at the same prestigious venue: the Théâtre du Châtelet, in the heart of Paris. The players nominated for the trophies will be announced in the first half of August.

The 2025 ceremony will be marked by equality in the distribution of awards: all the trophies that existed only for men will now also be available to women (best goalkeeper, best young player, best goalscorer).

It should be remembered that this ceremony is organized by France Football: 30 players are nominated for the Ballon d'Or and their names will be put to a vote. The voters are journalists. There are 100 for the men's Ballon d'Or and 50 for the women's Ballon d'Or.

For its part, France Football has announced a modification to the selection criteria. Three hierarchical criteria will be taken into account. First, individual performances and the decisive and impressive nature of the player. Second, the collective aspect and the trophies won. Finally, class and fair play. However, the criterion relating to the entirety of a player's career has been removed from the voting procedures for this year's competition.
