Nina Iliescu Thanks Nation After Farewell to Former President

Nina Iliescu, widow of former Romanian President Ion Iliescu, expressed gratitude to those who organized and attended his funeral, as well as to friends and medical staff who supported him in his final months, CE Report quotes AGERPRES

"On the hardest day of my life, I thank everyone who honored Ion Iliescu with dignity, love, and appreciation for his service to Romania," she wrote on ioniliescu.wordpress.com.

She also thanked citizens across the country who paid tribute to her husband, calling their gestures a source of comfort during a time of immense sorrow.

Ion Iliescu, Romania’s first post-communist president, passed away Tuesday at the age of 95. He was laid to rest with military honors on Thursday at Ghencea III Military Cemetery. A national day of mourning was declared, with state funerals held over two days.
