Romania, Moldova Boost Cultural Ties
Romanian Culture Minister Andras Demeter met with his Moldovan counterpart Sergiu Prodan on June 28 in Chisinau, in a move aimed at revitalizing cultural cooperation between the two countries, the Romanian Culture Ministry announced, CE Report quotes Agerpres
Taking place during Demeter’s first week in office, the visit underscores Romania’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Moldova through shared cultural initiatives.
The discussions focused on collaboration in heritage preservation, joint artistic projects, support for the publishing industry, and expanding cultural mobility networks. Demeter emphasized that culture, alongside language and education, plays a vital role in Romania-Moldova relations, serving as a lasting bridge between the two nations.
The meeting also addressed Moldovan concerns over a proposed VAT hike on imported books, especially from Romania. The Romanian side expressed understanding, stressing that access to culture and education should be protected through thoughtful public policy.
