Holocaust Remembrance Day: Concerns Over History Repeating Itself

Romania

Israel Tanner, president of the Association of the Romanian Jews - Victims of the Holocaust, has raised concerns about the possibility of a Holocaust-type event happening again. Speaking at a ceremony for International Holocaust Remembrance Day at Bucharest's Coral Temple, Tanner cited findings from the Claims Conference, showing that many Europeans, including 44% of Romanians surveyed, believe such a tragedy could recur, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Tanner, a survivor himself, shared his personal story of being deported to Transnistria as a two-year-old, where his father was taken to forced labor and killed. He also highlighted the Claims Conference's research, which revealed significant global apprehension: 69% of adults in the UK, 63% in France, and more than 75% in the U.S. believe a Holocaust-like event could happen again.

Reflecting on these findings, Tanner warned: “We look at what’s happening around us and think, ‘Here we go again.’”
