Zvërnec project still under development, says Albanian FM
Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Ferit Hoxha, stated that regarding the investment in Zvërnec, which has sparked public debate, there is no approved project yet, and that any decision-making will be based on comprehensive assessments, in accordance with Albanian legislation and international standards.
At a meeting with journalists from the member states of the European Union, Hoxha said that this issue has been discussed extensively with international partners and that the Albanian authorities have shared with them all the necessary information, CE Report quotes ATA.
The Minister emphasized that work is currently underway to draft the project and that there is still no approved document to come to conclusions.
Hoxha said that no development project has yet been approved for the Zvërnec investment. He stated that planning work is still ongoing, expressed confidence in the government’s information and the expertise of international architects, and emphasized that the project has not yet been finalized.
Hoxha said that a comprehensive environmental impact assessment will be carried out once the project is developed, in line with Albanian law and the country’s commitments. He stressed that such an assessment has not yet been conducted because the project has not yet been completed.
Hoxha said the government aims to strike the best balance between economic development and environmental protection. He emphasized that the proposal involves a private investment on privately owned land, and that the government’s role is to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and international standards.
Hoxha urged the public to wait for the project’s development and evaluation process to be completed before drawing conclusions about its impact.
