Greece's FM expresses strong concern over incidents in Albania
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece expresses its strong concern over the incidents that took place on May 30, 2026, in Zvërnec, Albania, during a protest by residents over property rights, among whom was a Greek citizen who was injured.
The Embassy of Greece in Tirana immediately took all necessary actions to ensure that he received the required consular and medical assistance, CE Report informs via the Greek Foreign Ministry's official website.
The Embassy of Greece in Tirana is also making the necessary representations to the Albanian side, requesting a full investigation of the incident and the attribution of responsibilities. In this context, we note the initial response of the Albanian authorities.
"We underline the need for full adherence to the rule of law, including the protection of the rights and property of members of the Greek national minority, as well as the importance of effectively protecting designated environmental areas, in line with alignment to the European acquis, compliance with which is a prerequisite for progress in the accession process," the statement reads.
