Albania is awaiting a European Commission assessment report to be presented to the bloc’s 27 member states as the country’s EU accession process enters a critical phase, Minister for Public Administration and Anti-Corruption of Albania Adea Pirdeni said.

In an interview with TV Klan, Pirdeni noted Albania had opened 33 negotiation chapters in record time, outpacing other candidate countries, CE Report quotes ATA.

She said the current focus remains on meeting interim benchmarks tied to justice reform, the fight against corruption and strengthening administrative capacity.

“The European Commission is expected to present to the 27 member states its assessment of Albania’s progress in meeting interim benchmarks, which are conditions set ahead of closing negotiation chapters, particularly in areas such as justice and anti-corruption,” Pirdeni said.

“Albania has prepared a solid dossier and expects the process to continue at the same or faster pace, especially following the Commission’s report,” she added.

According to her, the government aims to begin closing chapters individually, with the goal of completing the process by 2027, prioritising those that are more advanced while reinforcing capacity in more demanding areas.
