Greece, Netherlands boost cooperation on crime and migration control
Closer cooperation in tackling international organised crime, strengthening border protection and managing migration flows between Greece and the Netherlands was reaffirmed at a meeting between Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrisochoidis, and the Dutch Ambassador to Athens Barbara van Hellemond.
The two sides agreed to deepen collaboration between Greek and Dutch police authorities through enhanced information-sharing and the exchange of expertise, CE Report quotes ANA-MPA.
They also committed to continuing coordinated operational action to combat migrant smuggling networks. Chrisochoidis noted that the Netherlands makes a significant contribution to joint operations led by Frontex, aimed at safeguarding the EU’s external borders and countering the growing activity of international criminal organisations.
Earlier, the minister also met Türkiye’s ambassador to Greece Cagatay Erciyes. Discussions focused on joint efforts to combat cross-border organised crime, including illegal immigration, human trafficking, arms and drug trafficking, and smuggling. Migration management was also high on the agenda.The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in tackling cybercrime and to enhance customs coordination to facilitate tourist flows between Greece and Türkiye. Talks additionally covered cooperation to address illegal online betting platforms, which authorities say are used to launder proceeds for organised crime groups.
