Thousands rally in Prishtina for detained former KLA leaders
Thousands of citizens from all over Albanian space gathered in “Skanderbeg” square in Prishtina in support of the former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army who have been detained in The Hague since November 2020, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Albanians rallied for justice for former KLA leaders, displaying banners that rejected the rewriting of history and affirmed the legitimacy of their struggle, CE Report quotes ATA.
Attending the mass protest was also heads of state, President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, Leader of the Democratic Union for Integration in North Macedonia Ali Ahmeti and the leader of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group Taulant Balla.
A few days ago, Balla was also the initiator of the request for the Albanian Parliament to draft and vote on an official resolution in defense of former KLA commanders, which was approved last Thursday by the left-wing and right-wing together with 92 votes in favor.
“The KLA was born to protect its home country. It was not born for domination, but for freedom. This is the historical truth,” he said.
One of the first KLA fighters, Shqipe Krasniqi, emphasized that the trial of former KLA leaders in The Hague is directly affecting the memory and sacrifice of the fight for freedom.
She stated that on Independence Day, the citizens have not gathered just to celebrate, but to remember the great price of freedom and to support fellow fighters who are facing international justice.
