EU's Kaja Kallas rules out Russia’s G8 return
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas stated that Russia's return to the G8 format "definitely not" happening.
She stated this on a BBC Radio 4 program, CE Report quotes Ukrinform.
According to Kallas, the final peace plan to end the war in Ukraine must make a renewed Russian invasion impossible.
"If we want this to end this for good, we really really need to have concessions on Russia's side," she emphasized.
Such an approach would require Moscow to uphold international agreements and reduce its Armed Forces, Kallas noted.
"You can't just have a situation where you invade other country... and there's no accountability," the EU High Representative added.
Kallas also rejected Russia's return to the G8 format, as envisioned in Trump's peace plan for Ukraine. She added that this should "definitely not" happen.
"We can't go back to business as usual... how could you imagine that?" she stressed.
Kallas, while welcoming the "noble cause" by US President Donald Trump to achieve peace in Ukraine, also noted that we must question what "really brings peace" in the country.
As reported, Ukraine and the United States, following negotiations between the two countries' delegations in Geneva, agreed to continue working on joint proposals for a peace agreement. The sides confirmed that any future agreement must fully respect Ukraine's sovereignty and ensure a stable and just peace. Based on the results of the negotiations, the sides prepared an updated and refined framework peace document.
Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov stated that the Ukrainian and American delegations in Geneva reached a shared understanding of the key conditions of the peace agreement. The final stages of the arrangements are expected to take place during President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the United States in the coming days of November.
