European Parliament engages Bosnia on democratic governance

A delegation of six members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO) visited Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from Wednesday, November 5, to Friday, November 7, 2025.

During their visit, they met with representatives of key institutions and relevant stakeholders to discuss constitutional reform, democratic governance, and the country’s path toward European Union membership, CE Report quotes FENA.

The delegation is led by Adrián Vázquez Lázara (EPP, Spain) and includes Loránt Vincze (EPP, Romania), Marc Angel (S&D, Luxembourg), Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis (S&D, Lithuania), Marieke Ehlers (Renew Europe, Netherlands), and Nikolas Farantouris (The Left, Greece).

While in Sarajevo, the MEPs held a series of meetings with representatives of the Presidency of BiH, the Ministry of Justice of BiH, the Collegium of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, and members of constitutional-legal committees, as well as with the leadership of the Constitutional Court of BiH, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the Directorate for European Integration, the Central Election Commission, civil society organizations, research centers, international organizations, and ambassadors of EU member states.

In October 2025, the European Parliament considered the institutional challenges posed by the current geopolitical context and future EU enlargements, concluding that the enlargement process and institutional reforms must proceed in parallel.
