Mitsotakis Highlights Progress

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his weekly social media post on Sunday, emphasized major improvements in Greece’s labor market, infrastructure, and regional development, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

He highlighted the expansion of the digital work card system to nearly 2 million workers, now covering the tourism and food service sectors. This has led to a dramatic increase in declared overtime—over 1,000% in tourism and nearly 130% in food services—ensuring proper compensation and raising state revenues through fines and inspections. Additionally, Greece saw a record number of new jobs in the first half of 2025, with a 75% rise in private-sector full-time positions.

Other achievements include the long-awaited opening of the Patras–Pyrgos highway segment and new incentives for families to relocate to the Evros border region. These include €10,000 child bonuses, new university departments, expanded health services, more frequent train routes, and the extension of the border fence to curb illegal migration.

Mitsotakis also noted Greece’s application for €1.2 billion from the EU’s SAFE defense fund to strengthen the armed forces and create jobs. In healthcare, waiting times at public hospital outpatient services have dropped by 58% thanks to a new digital system. He also praised the successful coordination of an urgent liver transplant for a Greek teenager in Italy.

Lastly, the PM welcomed the acquisition of the Athens Stock Exchange by Europe’s largest financial manager as a strong sign of global investor confidence in Greece’s ongoing economic recovery.
