Greece Slams Turkiye's Marine Parks as Illegal

Politics

Greece has condemned Turkiye’s recent move to establish two marine parks in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, calling the decision "unacceptable and illegal."

In a statement, the Greek Foreign Ministry said the parks were declared in international waters near areas of Greek sovereignty, following Greece’s own initiative to create National Marine Parks, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia

Athens argued that Turkiye's unilateral action violates international maritime law and undermines good neighborly relations. The ministry emphasized that the move has no legal effect on Greek sovereign rights and urged Ankara to avoid escalatory actions.
