California Sues Trump Over Transgender Youth Care Ban
California and about fifteen other Democratic-led states have announced their intention to sue the Trump administration, challenging its attempt to ban healthcare providers from offering gender-affirming treatments to transgender minors, CE Report quotes ANSA
“The President’s and his administration’s relentless attacks on gender-affirming care are endangering already vulnerable teenagers, whose health and well-being are at risk,” said California Attorney General Rob Bonta in a statement announcing the federal lawsuit.
He added that the administration’s push to ban transition-related treatments is “cruel and irresponsible.”
The lawsuit, backed by states including New York, Illinois, and Massachusetts, argues that investigations by the Department of Justice represent an unconstitutional attempt to interfere with states’ authority to regulate medicine.
