Israel Slams Macron’s Pledge to Recognize Palestinian State
Israeli leaders strongly condemned French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement that France will recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the move “a reward for terror,” referencing the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel. He warned that a Palestinian state under current conditions would pose a threat to Israel’s existence.
Justice Minister Yariv Levin called Macron’s decision “a disgrace in French history” and urged Israel to annex West Bank settlements. Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Macron of weakening Israel at a critical time.
The Yesha Council, representing West Bank settlements, also demanded a swift Israeli response through sovereignty expansion.
Macron said the decision reflects France’s commitment to a “just and lasting peace” in the Middle East. So far, 149 of 193 UN member states recognize the State of Palestine.
