Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis convened an interministerial meeting after consulting the Scientific Risk Assessment Committee. The fire department was placed on alert, and heightened readiness was ordered across multiple ministries, the police, coast guard, armed forces, and local civil defense.
Meanwhile, Environment and Energy Minister Stavros Papastavrou led a separate emergency session with energy operators, including IPTO, HEDNO, and the regulatory authority RAEWW, to ensure uninterrupted power supply amid soaring temperatures.
Officials reviewed the impact of extreme heat on power cables and confirmed that contingency measures were already being implemented. Authorities expressed confidence in the system’s preparedness and called for increased vigilance in the coming days.
