Mitsotakis, Jørgensen Discuss Energy, Housing
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with European Commissioner for Energy & Housing Dan Jørgensen on Thursday to discuss key priorities, including energy affordability and housing policy, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonia
Talks focused on lowering energy prices for households and businesses and on major EU infrastructure projects to improve energy connectivity and security. Mitsotakis stressed the importance of energy cost reduction and reaffirmed Greece’s support for EU initiatives aimed at energy independence and decarbonization.
Housing affordability was another major topic. Mitsotakis highlighted the government’s new measures to ease rent burdens, including a rent reimbursement scheme starting in November for eligible tenants. "Affordable housing has become a major concern due to rapid economic development," he said.
Jørgensen welcomed the Greek initiatives and said housing is a growing issue across the EU, especially for young people. He announced plans to propose an EU-wide affordable housing strategy early next year.
