Israeli Strike Devastates Tehran’s Evin Prison, 71 Killed

Tehran’s Evin Prison, known for housing political prisoners including Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi, was severely damaged in an Israeli airstrike on June 23, just one day before a ceasefire took effect, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

According to Iran’s judiciary, 71 people were killed in the attack, including prison staff, inmates, soldiers, visiting family members, and nearby residents. Deputy prosecutor Ali Qenaatkar Mavardiani was among the dead.

Footage captured by Anadolu shows extensive destruction to key facilities, including the administrative building, hospital, prosecutor’s office, and visiting hall. Books, documents, and medical equipment were destroyed or damaged, with copies of the Quran also found torn and scattered.

The strike reportedly occurred during visitation hours, resulting in casualties among prisoners and their families. Civilian structures and vehicles in the vicinity also sustained damage.

An Iranian official said the assault involved seven missiles launched from warplanes.
