Kaja Kallas warns Iran against closing strait of Hormuz

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, warned on Monday that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz would be extremely dangerous and beneficial to no one, CE Report quotes HINA.

“There is great concern about the possibility of retaliation and escalation of the war, especially if Iran were to close the Strait of Hormuz, which would be extremely dangerous and good for no one,” Kallas said ahead of a meeting of foreign ministers, where the situation in the Middle East will be the main topic.

The Strait of Hormuz, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Indian Ocean, is the world’s most important oil transport route. About 20 percent of global oil and gas demand passes through it.

Before the official meeting, ministers discussed Iran during a working breakfast.

“Ministers are very focused on a diplomatic solution and there is great concern about the possibility of retaliation and escalation of the war,” the High Representative said.
