Bulgaria backs BiH on road to Brussels

The Secretary General of the European Movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Haris Plakalo, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Valeri Ivanov Yotov.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Republic of Bulgaria continues to provide strong support to Bosnia and Herzegovina on its European path, including all reform processes leading toward full membership in the European Union, according to a statement from the European Movement, CE Report quotes FENA.

The discussion focused on the current socio-political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with particular attention to the upcoming session of the European Council and the obligations BiH needs to fulfill in line with the European Commission’s recommendations for the start of accession negotiations. Ambassador Yotov emphasized that Bosnia and Herzegovina still faces many obligations, especially regarding the adoption of key laws in the field of justice, the reform agenda for the EU Growth Plan, and the adoption of the 2025 state budget.

Ambassador Yotov stressed that Bulgaria will continue to be a strong partner and supporter of Bosnia and Herzegovina and expressed his expectation that local political actors will demonstrate responsibility and determination in the interest of all citizens and peoples.

Secretary General Haris Plakalo thanked Ambassador Yotov for Bulgaria’s consistent positions and continuous support to Bosnia and Herzegovina, particularly highlighting Bulgaria’s role as the first country to recognize BiH’s independence. He also emphasized the importance of Bulgaria’s support for BiH’s European integration, as well as its contribution to strengthening bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
