NGOs Call for Calm Ahead of Vote

Several NGOs, including the public policy think-tank Expert Forum, issued a joint appeal on Friday urging presidential candidates and their supporters to refrain from unfounded accusations, aggressive rhetoric, and provocative behavior during and after the upcoming election, CE Report quotes Agerpres

"The stakes in this presidential election are extremely high. The campaign has deepened social divisions and polarized public opinion," Expert Forum said in a press release. "After Sunday's vote, we must continue living together, listen to each other, and understand how we got here."

The NGOs emphasized the need for calm and responsibility to help restore public trust in democracy and reinforce Romania’s credibility amid global instability.

They also called on authorities to ensure a transparent, fair electoral process and to respond to citizens with empathy and clarity. The Vot Corect Coalition will monitor the vote with 1,300 observers and plans to release a post-election report on Monday at 1:00 p.m.

The statement’s signatories include Expert Forum, Code for Romania, the Center for the Study of Democracy, ActiveWatch, and others. They urge all parties to accept the election outcome with fairness and respect.
