Foreign-Funded Ads Target Polish Election

Politics

Poland’s Disinformation Analysis Centre (NASK) has identified political ads on Facebook that may have been financed from abroad and targeted Polish users. Some accounts reportedly spent more on political content than any official election committee and promoted specific candidates while attacking others, CE Report quotes PAP

The ads focused on presidential candidates Rafal Trzaskowski (Civic Coalition), Karol Nawrocki (Law and Justice), and Slawomir Mentzen (Confederation). NASK notified Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and urged Meta to deactivate the accounts, citing breaches of election law. Meta has yet to respond.

Government officials, including Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, called for public vigilance and assured that cybersecurity measures are in place ahead of the May 18 presidential election. A runoff is set for June 1 if needed.
