Politics

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday welcomed the announced disbandment of the PKK terrorist group, calling it the beginning of a new era for a “terror-free Türkiye.”

Speaking to his party in parliament, Erdogan stressed that "implementation is what truly matters," noting that Türkiye's intelligence agency will monitor the process to ensure promises are kept, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

With the PKK pledging to lay down arms, Erdogan said the country is entering a phase free of “terrorism, weapons, violence, and illegality.” He urged affiliated PKK branches in Syria and Europe, including the YPG, to follow suit and disarm.

Erdogan highlighted that this moment presents a historic opportunity, urging it not be wasted on “petty calculations or international schemes.” He called for international investment in Türkiye’s southeastern regions, promising growth in tourism, agriculture, and social harmony.

Emphasizing Türkiye’s growing role in global peace diplomacy, Erdogan said the country has become a key mediator in regional and global crises. He also expressed gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump for lifting sanctions on Syria and voiced hope for progress in resolving the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
