EU Leaders Urge Russia to Accept Ceasefire
On Monday, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski met in London with his counterparts from France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, along with UK and EU representatives, to discuss continued support for Ukraine and strengthening Euro-Atlantic ties, CE Report quotes PAP
The talks followed a summit in Kyiv on Saturday, where European leaders, including Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, French President Emmanuel Macron, and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, called for a 30-day unconditional ceasefire starting Monday and urged Russia to engage in peace talks. US President Donald Trump also backed the initiative.
Russian President Vladimir Putin responded with a proposal for direct negotiations but did not agree to a ceasefire.
Sikorski emphasized that Ukraine had already accepted the ceasefire and accused Russia of seeking excuses to prolong the war. He urged continued Western pressure on Putin, stating that consequences must fall on the aggressor, not the victim.
