
Greece Unveils €1B Social Aid
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a €1 billion support package following news of the country’s strong fiscal performance in 2024, with a record surplus of €11.4 billion (4.8% of GDP), according to ELSTAT and Eurostat, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian
The relief measures focus on two key areas: supporting vulnerable pensioners and addressing the housing crisis affecting renters.
Starting this year, approximately 1.5 million low-income pensioners, uninsured elderly, and people with disabilities will receive a permanent annual payment of €250 every November.
To ease housing costs, tenants will receive a full month’s rent refunded each November, and new social housing projects will be launched. Additionally, €500 million will be added annually to the Public Investment Programme to fund public works and boost job creation amid global uncertainty.
