Denmark Criticizes Trump's Greenland Remarks

Politics

Denmark's Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen expressed strong objections to US President Donald Trump's recent comments about Greenland, accusing the US of escalating tensions and meddling in Denmark’s internal affairs, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency

Trump stated that the US “needs” Greenland for international security, suggesting its strategic importance. Lund dismissed these remarks as “far-fetched” and warned that they represented a “hidden threat” against Denmark and its territories, including Greenland.

Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark since the 18th century, has rejected any suggestions of selling the island. A recent survey showed 85% of Greenlanders oppose joining the US. Prime Minister-elect Jens-Frederik Nielsen reaffirmed that Greenland is not for sale and should remain under Greenlandic control.
