EU Commissioner Calls for Simplified Funding Access to Boost Tourism

At a special event in Brussels, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, emphasized the need to simplify procedures for accessing EU tourism funding, CE Report quotes Athens-Macedonian

Highlighting tourism as a key driver of Europe's economy, he noted that the European Commission's creation of a dedicated portfolio underscores its significance for local communities and businesses. Tzitzikostas stressed the importance of strengthening the EU’s global competitiveness in the sector.

He also outlined plans to enhance tourism resilience against modern challenges while fostering sustainable growth. Currently, the industry supports over three million businesses—mostly SMEs—and employs more than 20 million people across the EU.
