PSD Chairman Marcel Ciolacu Announces Presidential Election Plans

Politics

Prime Minister and Social Democratic Party (PSD) Chairman Marcel Ciolacu confirmed Monday that the upcoming presidential election will feature a single candidate in the polls. He described the election timeline as fair, avoiding overlap with the Easter holidays, CE Report quotes Agerpres

Speaking at PSD headquarters, Ciolacu explained that the election calendar was finalized in collaboration with National Liberal Party (PNL) interim chairman Ilie Bolojan. Key dates include May 4 and 18, with the schedule set to be validated this week through a Government Emergency Ordinance (OUG).

"The decision has been made—only one candidate, Crin Antonescu, will appear in the poll. Afterward, a National Political Council (CNP) meeting and a PSD congress will be organized. There’s also a possibility of a joint congress with PNL and UDMR," Ciolacu stated.

The Social Democrats convened on Monday for a National Political Council meeting to validate the election calendar.
