EU Greenlights €6B for Polish Defence Fund
The Council of the European Union has approved a key revision of Poland’s National Recovery Plan (KPO), officially incorporating the Defence and Security Fund into the programme. This move unlocks over €6 billion (around PLN 26 billion) in EU funding for Poland, CE Report quotes PAP
Deputy Minister Jan Szyszko announced the approval on X, highlighting that Poland is the first EU country to direct recovery funds toward defence. Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski confirmed the funds could be transferred before the summer holidays.
This marks the third revision of the KPO and enables the third tranche of EU payouts to Poland. The Defence and Security Fund will support projects such as building shelters, modernising transport infrastructure, and strengthening defence industries. The funds were reallocated from the green transition portion of the original KPO plan.
In total, Poland stands to receive €59.8 billion from the KPO, including €25.27 billion in grants and €34.54 billion in low-interest loans.
