Duda: Three Seas Initiative for Security
The Three Seas Initiative, launched in 2015 by Polish President Andrzej Duda and his Croatian counterpart, has evolved into a critical platform for regional cooperation among 13 EU countries situated between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas, CE Report quotes PAP
Speaking at a summit on Tuesday, President Duda emphasized the importance of the initiative in a time of global unrest. "We live in a world full of tensions and unrest," he said, pointing to the ongoing war in Ukraine, which borders five Three Seas countries.
Duda highlighted that the initiative is becoming a strategic response to emerging security threats. "A new security architecture is emerging before our eyes," he stated, noting the growing focus on military mobility, infrastructure resilience, and cybersecurity within the project.
While rooted in economic collaboration and energy security, the initiative has increasingly played a role in reinforcing transatlantic ties and EU cohesion, according to Duda.
This year's gathering includes leaders from across the region, along with representatives from the U.S., Japan, Ukraine, Moldova, and new associate states Albania and Montenegro.
