Kosovo faces strike over wage discrimination

Kosovo

The Federation of Trade Unions of Private Sector Workers of Kosovo has warned of a strike and protests starting from March 1 if their demand for salary increases for workers providing services to central and municipal institutions is not met.

This was announced by the president of this union, Jusuf Azemi, who emphasized that wage increases should be equal, as has happened in the public sector, where salaries were raised by 55 euros this month, CE Report quotes Kosova Press.

During an extraordinary meeting of the Federation of Trade Unions of Private Sector Workers, Azemi stated that this sector has long been discriminated against by the state. He also added that even on Sunday, during election day, they will be more "careful" about whom they vote for.

Furthermore, he stated that today’s meeting was held to prepare for union actions if salary demands are not taken into account.
In addition, he mentioned that the minimum wage set by the government is not being implemented.
