The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova has emphasized the importance of ensuring uninterrupted natural gas supply to the Transnistrian region, highlighting both operational stability and the need to prevent disruptions affecting local consumers.

This was said by the source in the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Moldova in an exclusive interview with CE Report.

According to the Ministry, the request for an extension of the current supply arrangements takes into account the approaching expiry of the previous designation period on March 31, 2026.

Authorities stressed the necessity of maintaining continuity in transport, balancing, flexibility, and related services provided by the national transmission system operator, Vestmoldtransgaz LLC, while also planning transport capacity bookings in line with the annual auction calendar published by ENTSOG.

Cost efficiency and broader energy security considerations were cited as additional factors guiding the Ministry’s approach.

The Ministry further noted that the overriding priority has been to guarantee both the continuity and predictability of supply, while avoiding developments that could exacerbate the humanitarian situation in the region.

On the issue of transparency and regulatory oversight, the Ministry stated that it operates within the framework of national legislation and in coordination with the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and other competent authorities, each acting within its mandate.

The Ministry indicated that relevant institutions continuously monitor the implementation of obligations established by regulatory acts, including the use of storage volumes and operational arrangements linked to supply continuity.

ANRE’s observations regarding the need for clearer operational rules and enhanced monitoring mechanisms were acknowledged as part of ongoing efforts to reduce risks of supply interruption.

To further strengthen the security and predictability of natural gas supply to Transnistria, the Ministry is in the process of amending the Law on Natural Gas No. 108/2016. The draft law, along with explanatory materials, has been published on the Government’s public participation platform for review.

Regarding current operational relationships, the Ministry noted that, according to publicly available information, Moldovagaz continues short-term cooperation with MET Group for gas deliveries, including supplies made through MET Gas and Energy Marketing AG.

At this stage, no specific changes to operational or contractual arrangements have been announced beyond those already adopted by competent authorities.

Future decisions will depend on market developments, regional conditions, operational feasibility, and the ongoing need to safeguard uninterrupted supply.
