Italy Tops 2 Million Solar Systems
Italy has exceeded the milestone of 2 million grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems, confirming solar energy as a cornerstone of the country’s electricity system, CE Report quotes ANSA.
This ongoing growth, driven by residential, industrial, and utility-scale installations, reflects increasing awareness of the benefits of self-consumption and the need to include solar energy in the national energy mix to lower electricity bills.
According to data analyzed by Italia Solare based on Gaudì-Terna figures, 132,276 new PV systems were connected in the first seven months of 2025, with a total installed capacity of 3,354 MW.
The cumulative total as of July 30, 2025, reached 2,011,056 connected systems, with a total installed capacity exceeding 40 GW (40,430 MW).
Lombardy leads the regional ranking with 326,586 connected systems, followed by Veneto with 274,699.
“We’ve passed a symbolic milestone: two million systems mean millions of families, businesses, and public entities have chosen a clean, reliable, and autonomous energy source. Today, solar energy is no longer marginal—it is an integral part of our energy infrastructure,” said Paolo Rocco Viscontini, president of Italia Solare.
“It’s time to speed up mechanisms that support self-consumption and energy storage integration, overcoming the bureaucratic and legislative delays still hindering the development of a clean energy system that can ensure Italy low and stable energy prices over time.”
