Documentary on Diyarbakır prison to premiere in Türkiye

According to an official statement, a special screening of the documentary focusing on Diyarbakır Prison, produced by Matiate Production, will take place on December 19 at Atlas 1948 Cinema.

The documentary revisits the human rights violations that occurred at Diyarbakır Prison following the September 12 military coup, presenting them through the testimonies of witnesses and in the light of historical documents, CE Report quotes Anadolu Agency.

Dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in prison, the film depicts the physical and psychological violence endured behind bars, using archival footage from the period along with reenactments.

As reported by CE Report, Orhan Miroğlu, quoted in the statement, said of the documentary’s purpose: “Türkiye is not a country that has fully confronted its past, but Diyarbakır Prison is one of the key crossroads of this reckoning.” He added that the film aims to refresh collective memory and convey the realities of a dark period to future generations.
