Bulgarian film "The Trap" to screen at European film festival

A Bulgarian film titled The Trap, directed by Nadezhda Koseva, will be shown at this year's European Film Festival in Stockholm (November 27-30, 2025), the Bulgarian Embassy in the Swedish capital said on Facebook.

The screening will take place at Zita Folkets Bio at 3:35 p.m. on November 30, with Bulgarian audio and English subtitles, the diplomatic mission specified, CE Report quotes BTA.

The film tells the story of Bozeka (played by Alexander Trifonov), who lives on the banks of the River Danube in harmony with nature and the animals in his small zoo. When the local oligarch, with the support of the mayor and the chief of police, starts a dangerous nuclear waste storage project near the city, Bozeka is the only one who can and dares oppose him. The Trap is a film about the animal in humans and the human in animals.

The movie has won an award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor for Alexander Trifonov at the 2024 South East European Film Festival in Los Angeles and three prizes at the 42nd Golden Rose Bulgarian Feature Film Festival in 2024: the Special Jury Prize, Best Actor (Alexander Trifonov) and Cinematography (Kiril Prodanov).

The Trap is a Bulgarian-German co-production and was written by Boyan Papazov. The cast includes Trifonov, Yanitsa Atanasova, Dan Nikolov, Mihail Stoyanov, Kamen Kalev, Nikolay Todorov, and Nikolay Chobanski.

The European Film Festival is taking place on the initiative of the European Commission representation in Sweden in partnership with the embassies of the EU Member States. The 2025 edition involves 20 EU countries, Ukraine, Moldova, Albania and Turkiye.
