Croatian teen literature star reaches North Macedonian readers

Contemporary Croatian children's writer Sanja Pilić's novel for young adults "All the Best About Mums" has been translated into North Macedonian and released by Makedonika Litera.

The publisher said it in a press release, CE Report quotes MIA.

"All the Best About Mums" is Pilić's is first novel, originally published as „O mamama sve najbolje“ in 1990.

It won her the national Grigor Vitez Award and it has been on the required reading list for schoolchildren in Croatia for many years.

With her relatable and witty portrayal of a mother struggling to write, Pilić has also won the hearts of many teenagers as well as critics.

"This novel talks about the problems of writing, technique, characters, plot, but also about the writer's life, about her social and financial status and about the problem of reconciling writing with family life. It talks about motherhood from the perspective of a mother who feels she has grown up too soon and that her 'adult' life prevents her from doing many things she yearns to do. Some of them are childhood wishes and fantasies as well as finding time for herself and her own interests," the publisher said, adding that the author also writes about children's play and problems, marital relationships and friendships — and cooking dinner.

Sanja Pilić (b. 1954, Split) is the author of over 80 books, the winner of 20 national awards and a nominee for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award and Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award.

This is her second book published in Macedonian translation, after Makedonika Litera released her collection of short stories "I'm So Happy!" in 2024.
