Oktoberfest faces possible closure following letter threat
The Munich police have found a letter containing a threat against Oktoberfest.
The festival might be closed for the entire day, CE Report quotes ANSA.
The German newspaper Bild reports statements from Munich’s mayor, Dieter Reiter, who links the possible closure to this morning’s explosion in the northern part of the city.
The police announced they are also investigating a possible connection to Antifa. A text titled "Antifa means attack" was published early this morning on the far-left website indymedia.org.
In the Antifa-published text, quoted by Bild, it says: "In the early hours of the morning, we set fire to several luxury cars in the northern Munich area and made home visits. Also, a fascist’s morning walk didn’t end particularly well." A police spokesperson said the police were aware of the situation and, like with all other leads, were investigating a possible connection.
Early this morning, several explosions in the Lerchenau district triggered a large-scale operation involving firefighters and police. A burned-out van was found in a residential area of Munich; a seriously injured person was found and died shortly after at Lerchenau lake. Police found explosive traps in a house that had apparently been deliberately set on fire. According to current information, a family dispute preceded the incident.
