Actress Claudia Cardinale has died at the age of 87 in the Paris region, CE Report quotes ANSA.

She passed away in Nemours, near Paris, where she had been living permanently for several years, surrounded by her children.

Born in Tunis on April 15, 1938, Claudia Cardinale was one of the most celebrated actresses in Italian cinema. She won three David di Donatello awards and three Nastro d'Argento awards, as well as a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival in 1993, and a Career David in 1997.

Among her most famous films—alongside co-star Marcello Mastroianni—are Il bell'Antonio by Mauro Bolognini, La ragazza con la valigia by Valerio Zurlini, 8½ (1963) by Federico Fellini, and especially The Leopard by Luchino Visconti, La ragazza di Bube (1963) by Luigi Comencini, and La pelle (1981) by Liliana Cavani.

She also portrayed Pauline Bonaparte in Austerlitz, and Claretta Petacci in Claretta by Pasquale Squitieri. She had lived in France for many years.
