Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film, “One Battle After Another”, has received very positive early reviews, with Steven Spielberg calling it “a crazy and extraordinary film” during a conversation with Anderson at the Directors Guild of America theater.

Spielberg said he had never seen so much action in an Anderson movie, CE Report quotes ATA.

“There’s more action in the first hour of this film than in all your other movies combined. It’s a strange yet highly relevant mix, reflecting today’s reality in a way that is both absurd and deeply unsettling,” the acclaimed director remarked.

“One Battle After Another” is based on the novel “Vineland” by American writer Thomas Pynchon.

Leonardo DiCaprio plays a failed “revolutionary” who faces an enemy from his past while trying to save his teenage daughter.

The cast also includes Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti in her film debut.

International critics have also responded with superlatives.

Evan Romano of Men’s Health called the movie “the No. 1 film of the year,” while critic and podcaster Brett Arnold said it is “Anderson’s best film,” adding that Sean Penn’s performance is Oscar-worthy.

Critic Chris Evangelista of Slash Film described it as “the modern American nightmare in VistaVision,” while Edward Douglas praised the balance between DiCaprio’s humor and Penn’s dramatic intensity.

Although some, like Grace Randolph, expressed initial doubts, many other critics believe this project will be one of the main contenders for the Oscars.

One Battle After Another could bring Paul Thomas Anderson his first Oscar for Best Director,” wrote Kyle Buchanan of The New York Times.

The film is scheduled for worldwide release on September 26 by Warner Bros.
