
Agnieszka Holland to Receive Lifetime Award
Polish director Agnieszka Holland, a leading figure in European cinema, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the CineLibri International Book to Film Festival in Sofia this October. She will also receive an honorary doctorate from Bulgaria’s National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA), CE Report quotes BTA
Holland is visiting Bulgaria for the 11th edition of CineLibri and the BOB (Based-On-Books) Forum, which focuses on literary screen adaptations. Her latest biographical drama Franz, centered on Franz Kafka, will premiere in Bulgaria during the festival. The film, a multinational co-production, will first debut at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Franz stars German actor Idan Weiss as Kafka and was co-written by Marek Epstein and Holland. The Sofia screening will include a Q&A with the director.
Holland joins previous CineLibri honorees such as Ian McEwan and Volker Schlöndorff. The award ceremony is set for October 24 at the NDK, and the honorary doctorate will be presented on October 27 at NATFA.
