"Wladigeroff’s Grandson Remembers Musical Legend"
World-renowned composer Pantcho Wladigeroff was a remarkable grandfather, said his eldest grandson, Pantcho Wladigeroff Jr., in an interview with BTA during his visit to Stara Zagora for the premiere of the opera Tsar Kaloyan.
Wladigeroff Jr. recalled meeting his grandfather at age 19 and remaining close until the composer’s death in 1978. “He had a great sense of humor, which helped him through life and is reflected in his music,” he said, CE Report quotes BTA
Now a piano professor, Wladigeroff Jr. dismissed comparisons with his grandfather: “He was a colossus on a European and world scale.”
The premiere of Tsar Kaloyan, described as a demanding Wagnerian-scale opera, is part of the centennial celebration of Bulgaria's first opera outside the capital. All four grandchildren of the composer attended the event.
